Our Morning Walk
// August 29th, 2005 // Uncategorized
I must assume that it is politically incorrect these days to buy a dog from a pet store based on the reaction I get when I answer the “where did you get them” question. This morning while walking Bingo and CousCous a lady who was walking her very cute French Bulldog asked me if I ” saved their lives” or got them from a breeder. When I told her that they were store bought the look of discust on her face made me want to bow my head in shame and walk away with my tail between my legs. I’m afraid one day soon someone is going to throw a bucket of red paint on me.
On a lighter note the Monkeys spent the rest of the morning playing together in their new exercise pen and are now napping. I think CousCous’s motherly instincts are kicking in. Though Pepper will not get any milk from Cous he is getting lots of licks and body heat. They are curled up together in her crate right now catching some Zzz’s…

People tend to get really upset with the whole “puppy store” thing. For me it’s a personal issue and it would be similar to telling a woman she must never give birth to a child because there’s too many orphans and kids in foster care.
It’s a complicated issue and people should just do what they need to do. You can’t help who you fall in love with, and as long as we make a good home for the new dog it doesn’t matter where he came from.
The reason people shouldn’t buy dogs from a pet store is a good breeder does not sell puppies to stores…so the dogs come from “backyard breeders” or “puppy mills”. These types of breeders have less experiance and many times over breed and raise their dogs improperly, which may cause health and temperment issues to be in-bred. You have been very lucky to receive sound, healthy pups so far, and I wish you only the best. Not everyone has been so lucky.

Robert Sweet…didn’t I read on Jimi’s blog that you just left the dog you “love” in Washington Sq Park, when you moved out of Jimi’s…and it was just luck that he happened to come across someone that found Bingo???
No Dray — you asshole — Robert Sweet *is* Jimi Sweet. Michael is my brother who left his dog at the park. The dog that was “left” was Loki. Couscous and Bingo are *my* dogs.
Please get your story straight or please SHUT THE FUCK UP.
You’re are Sweet….ha ha!
